2010 SWSGA STEEL GUITAR SHOW EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS
You're not really a true musician unless you know...How to Hear.
The true key to playing well is first hearing well, understanding the inner structure of music you're hearing and want to, or must, play.
This workshop will dramatically improve your music listening skills. You'll learn how to have "big ears" and:
- Identify major and minor chords
- Recognize 6th, 7th and other "flavor" chords
- Understand common, and less common, chord sequences
- Use tricks, tips and even amazing software to help you hear the changes better
ENROLLMENT INCLUDES COMPANION BOOK, "How to Play By Ear," by Jack Hatfield, a $20 value.
Includes CD of ear-training exercises covering intervals, scales and chords
How to Write.
Being able to write a simple and accurate chord chart of a song you've never heard is a survival skill you must have if you're planning to do session or stage work.
In this workshop you'll learn:
- The simple but essential principles of the Nashville Number System
- Why numbers AND letters are still necessary
- How to break down a song's structure into intro/verse/chorus/pre/bridge/tag/outro
- Special shorthand symbols and arranging techniques the pros use for clean, concise charts
ENROLLMENT INCLUDES COMPANION BOOK, "The Nashville Number System," by Chas Williams, a $20 value.
On included CD, "follow the bouncing ball" through Nashville number charts for 10 songs.

There will be raffles held during the annual show. There is slated to be some big-ticket items at the raffles. Dave Beaty of Telonics has donated an eight channel, PMX802M Pyle Pro mixer head. And, in behalf of Stealseat.com, we will donate a seat for the raffle.
Let's pump this raffle up with even more items and more participation so that the association can take in more money for bigger and better shows in the future. -- Joe Naylor
